Blue and Green

With this piece I went back to traditional colouring with my markers. There’s a bit of digital work in it as well, though, because I did the lines with inkscape. I had a very rough idea of fish jumping through the water when I did the lines and the colouring.

Death valley traditional

Some weeks ago I bought some coated paper especially suited for markers and felt pens. Until last Sunday I hadn’t used it in my printer, being afraid that there would be a paper jam with it. However I had to try it, and so I did.

I decoloured my Inkscape digital image (shown in the last post), so that only the lines were left and then clicked on the “print” button. No problem – the result was fine. I then fetched my markers and coloured the lines in the traditional way, and I must say that I am quite satisfied with the result. Mind you, I don’t intend to draw and paint in a realistic – or is it realist – way. I always add one, two or even three drops of surrealism to the piece. ..

Floral Fairy

I used my watercolour pencils and my markers on cardstock paper. So I had to transfer the print from Dover publications with my provisional light table, and doing this, I simplified the drawing a bit. The fairy, the tulips and the leaves are coloured in with markers, the ground and the background are coloured in with Mondeluz watercolour pencils.

Fancy Face

This is one of the free sampler pages from Dover publications. I coloured it in with my Stabilo and Staedtler fineliners. These fineliners are great for doing very detailed work, but you cannot avoid to produce streaks when you do larger spaces with them.

Babouchka

I found this colouring page on Pinterest. It shows one of those Russian babouchkas which are nested in one another (you open one, lift it up and up comes another smaller one). I coloured it in with various markers, fineliners and PITT Artist Brush pens.

Happy colours – work in progress

Happy colours

This piece is hand-drawn and coloured with Stabilo and Staedtler pens. Although spring is round the corner we aren’t seeing many spring colours here in Berlin at the  moment. So I thought to create my own happy colours…

Fish – Work in progress

fish, coloured in with Staedtler Fineliners

This is really a challenge! i’ve never used those Staedtler fineliners before. Their tips are so tiny that you almost need a looking glas to work with them. However I find that kind of colouring very, very soothing. It’s just the proper thing to do after a working day…

The colouring page is a sample page from Dover publications.

Fancy Face

I have a subscription for the newsletter from Dover publications, and one advantage of this newsletter is that you get access to free colouring pages samples every Friday. I did this with a variety of markers – alcohol markers and markers with waterbased ink. I chose simple copy paper mainly for the reason that the colouring page can easily be printed.

Celtic knot

celtic knot

This is another result of the colouring activities of last week. Colouring is something I can do even after a stressful workday, or before a workday, sitting at my breakfast table, sipping a mug with delicious tea.

Colour explosion

colour explosion. Markers on paper.

As you can see I am still having fun colouring!
