In a few weeks the year 2008 will be over. It was my first year of blogging in English. Actually it was not a whole year – my regular blogging days began in July 2008. I find it quite difficult to pick out “simply the Best”. What is a good post, and what is the best one?
I decided for an experimental post from November:
Old and New – Story from Berlin
It is a mixture out of fiction and non-fiction, together with a photo. It is the story of a an old house at the Potsdamer Platz.
The post is simply the best because it creates a sense of place although every native English speaker certainly will notice that English is not my first language.
This post is a contribution to Joanna Young’s Writing Project Simply the Best.

Ulla, nice choice! I think ‘the best’ is almost impossible to choose or define… one that ’speaks’ to us (or to our readers) is probably the way that I’ll go in my choice too.
I was also particularly fond of this post, and you’re right, it very successfully created a sense of place.
Thanks for your contribution!
Ulla, This is a wonderful choice, and thank you for giving me a reason read it again. The photo is marvelous, and so is your writing!
Ulla, your entry was beautifully written. It was a very creative and warm way to share Berlin’s history. I am very glad that you began blogging in English!
Ulla,
That building certainly has some history behind it, and I love the way you touch nicely upon the social and political background in the way that you tell the story.
I concur with Joanna, Brad and Karen – a wonderful choice of entries.
Ulla,
What a lovely post you’ve chosen! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. One great thing about these “best of” writing projects is that we get a second chance to read some wonderful blog posts that we may have missed the first time around! (And, even if we haven’t missed them, we’re given the opportunity to read them again and recall what we liked so much about them the first time.)
Wonderful choice!
Jeanne
