Here in Berlin the heavy winds of autumn have taken down many of the leaves. On the one hand this reminds me of the coming winter, and therefore makes me a bit sad. On the other hand, you can now see what is hidden in summer: the structure of the branches. I like to look at them and sometimes I even want to take out a pencil and a piece of paper and make a drawing. I haven’t had the time yet…

Beautiful colors, Ulla. The sun behind the clouds gives the picture a cheerful tone.
You know Ulla; I don’t think I’ve ever stopped to think about the underlying structure of the trees under all those leaves before. Thank you for a pioneering thought!
Ulla, I second Brad and Robert’s thoughts. Our sky looks very much like that. There are fewer leaves on the trees, and those that remain are golden, green and red reminding me that Autumn is not quite done. I never thought about the structure and as soon as I read, I looked outside the window with new interest. Thank you for opening my eyes to a new way at looking at this time in the season.
Ulla,
When I was very young, my mother taught me how to draw a tree. (Her version) She would take a pencil and start a line where the root would be and grow a tiny sapling and reach, reach, reaching to the sky. Then starting at the roots again she would trace over that line until it became taller and thicker. Then she would Start again at the root and trace along until- oh my- a branch would sprout out! Then beginning again and repeating until the entire tree had grown under her pencil all the way to the tiny little flecks of twigs where the leaves would be. They were the most realistic trees and so fun to do! Your picture reminded me. Thanks for the memory, I think I’ll go draw some trees!
I do like this picture very much. I hope you can get out and about drawing before the weather gets too bad.
